Like so many people, I am not immune to the lure of the New Year’s Resolution.
I have - on many occasions - set out with a mind of ‘This year I will fix ALL THE THINGS’ and … failed by mid January and given up entirely by February.
But I have learned why that is this year - “all or nothing” is such an “ADHD thing”. I mean, I know there’s a bunch of ‘official’ diagnostic criteria, but I’ve also got an ad-hoc list of ‘ADHD flags’ that aren’t, y’know, official, but …. (“Gifted but lazy” people I’m looking at you).
So this year, I’m going to … not do that. I’m going to take a moment to remind you all, that 'good enough’ is good enough. You don’t need to achieve perfection to have none the less made a step forward. And one step is more than no steps, so it’s still a good thing that you should be proud of.
Take the year one day, one hour or one minute at a time. Look for individual choices and your opportunity to ‘do better next time’ each time you have a choice to make.
It’s enough.
